It actually says he will buy it, “AS IS” at the bottom... WTF does that mean, he thinks it needs more work??? It’s repainted and totally rebuilt with disks and triple carbs! Not enough for you? But as I back up I notice another note on a 911 that a neighbor has..... SO.... this guy is in a sports car frenzy?? He HAS to have sports cars no matter the year or make? Oh I need that 71' Z or damn maybe I can get that 996 911!!??? I get notes almost every time I take the Z and park it anywhere long enough, but I haven’t seen a barrage of note writing in my parking lot before. I have always had issues with people and parking with my condos so I was parked in my own space and I saw that note at a distance and I was ready for fucking WAR if they had some problem with that!!! Ok so that happened today. .. Also note he has “car” in a different pen width, like he is just writing tons of these about cars and maybe things other that cars, like maybe trucks? So the AS IS could be about anything, I didn’t go pluck the note off the 911.

Here’s what I think - I think he goes around with a stack of those notes pre-printed, putting them on any car he likes. And fills in the blank section with whatever it is.

However, for whatever reason, he didn’t know what your car was, so he just put ‘car’.

Translated: He’s a lowballer looking for people desperate.

Looks like a guy just trying to buy any car he can. Like a dealer or flipper. The CAR in different writing then the rest tells me he is copying one paper and then putting it wherever.

This note reminds me of the letters I get about once a month from people looking to buy the rental property next door that I purchased out of foreclosure. They are all sent on yellow legal pad paper and look like they are handwritten. But it’s really just a generic letter than someone prints off using a “handwritten” font. Why would anyone want to buy a house sight unseen? The only way that works is if you get it for way below fair market value. So I should sell it to you for less than I bought it? I guess they get enough hits to make it worth while.

Your note looks very similar. People just fishing on the off chance someone doesn’t know what it’s worth. And in this case he didn’t even bother to carry a market with him to make the note look legit. You should definitely call the number to find out his angle.

I really want my condo complex to put in a gate, we have an old folks home down the street and all kinds of weirdos work there who take up all the street parking because the official lot is down a hill. We also get people who visit the old people try to park in our lot despite big signs and guest spaces clearly marked. I want my own garage and driveway so badly, the manager here can’t devote enough time to it and I get that. When I see someone get out of their car and go to walk down the hill I tell them their car will be towed, notice all the signs? Does this look like the old folks home??

There is an underground garage on one side and the bikes were always being stolen from the rack so the indoor mailroom with a rack is packed. They put in super bright LED lights (Q7 bright) and cameras, so one of the window blinds in my place is like daylight at night.

My friend lives there but in a very special spot, there is a huge railroad area that nobody can cross on foot and there is a huge park with a 30 ft fence covered in ivy down the other side of the little neighborhood. So unless you knew it was there you don’t have a clue. Also many of the people who live there are older and have been there 20+ years and report everything, the guy across from him is a USAF rescue team veteran and pretty much goes out to confront anything suspicious haha. Other than that, no fucking way I go there. I only go for BBQs at his house, his wife is from China and makes the best pork ribs I’ve ever had...

Not sure - you’re probably right. I was just thinking that there would be more of a market for your car in the Bay Area (or SoCal) as compared to Chicago, where I’m at. They’re rare by you - they’re goddamn unicorns here in the rust belt.

Yeah there aren’t many back east. Our East Bay and South Bay are full of Asian families and immigrants, the JDM YO! is strong with them. The old guy I bought the car from, out of a shed in Santa Cruz, did me a favor by not adding it to Craigs San Jose. If he had some kid would have been all over it. I was just randomly searching outlying areas of the Bay. I saw it and looked pretty good, I went the next day, drove it home on 2/3s of the carbs working, hey it only had two to begin with!

For sure, it isn’t all bad. And the city has done a pretty remarkable job of cleaning up what they could over the last decade or so.

The only time I ever go through there, however, is when I’m on my way to to SF or Oakland (or if I’m going to Marin and there’s a wreck or something on Hwy 37).

That’s a brilliant idea. Tape them to park benches, trees, helicopters, manhole covers, children.

Okay, probably not that last one, unless of course you want to risk being asked some very serious questions by someone who’s job expressly forbids a sense of humor.

I’ve never gotten one of these, but I’ve been asked the question about my wagon. I’ve come extremely close to leaving a note like that, and now I regret not doing it. It was on a 2011-ish bmw 328 wagon 6-speed... just about the latest manual bmw wagon you can get - and it was a nice blue, too.

I can’t really see writing up a bunch of notes like that, though, and putting them on a bunch of different cars ... that seems sketchy.

When I got the Z I thought guys would talk to me more often, it turns out the ladies who had boyfriends in the early 70's have a lot more to say! I get a lot of notes, some flat out offers. They try for $15k sometimes, I don’t really ever want to sell it, you’d have to pull out a number like $50k to get me to think about it at all, but that’s because my friend has a whole shop and other Z cars and I could pay him 30k to make another and keep 20k. I am wondering what kind of response the Power Wagon will get. I expect old guys who were in Korea/Nam to say they remember them, I expect the...WTF is that?? We’ll find out! Someone who was near the shop asked if it was a Kaiser, I said it was a Dodge, so far people ask if it’s diesel.

I’ve yet to get offers on the current truck. The ‘72, of course I had it for 9 years, but so many people asked to buy it. I’d have a hard time selling the ‘61 for much less than stupid money, because it would be hard to replace, specifically because it’s NOT restored, and yet it’s not ruined. There aren’t very many trucks in that window.
